Back when she was nine, when she was in kindergarten, Ava's class was assigned with buddies for a day. They got to spend time with the younger kids—joining their classes, doing arts and crafts, and even having lunch together. Ava's buddy was a little girl named May, who, coincidentally, also lived in her neighborhood.
